The CD contains a nicely balanced program of works from a magnificent concerto to five unusual short pieces for solo piano by Scriabin, but is primarily a live recording of the Piano Concerto No.1. Kissin gives a very skillful performance throughout, without haste and with great precision of timing, and the sound of the piano itself seems to come through very well against the orchestra in this recording. The recording quality throughout is very good and without excessive reverberation from the orchestra. Karajan provides excellent support for a teenage pianist in the recording of the concerto. Recommended purchase for a live recording of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1. (source:
